Neal's Yard is London's sunniest spot come rain or shine, with bright buildings and artwork lightening up the greyest of British spring days. It's no surprise then that our Pick of the Week, new eat-the-rainbow café Salad Pride, has slotted seamlessly into the courtyard famous for its wellbeing-focused traders.
Salad Pride is a brand new eatery serving breakfast bowls, salad bowls and comfort bowls, along with smoothies, hot drinks and Wholly Cakes. Founder David Bez began his foodie journey as a blogger, creating new breakfasts and lunches as side-projects and blossoming into an author with two cookbooks: Salad Love and Breakfast Love. He's now launched Salad Pride with his team and is feeding Londoners with a whole array of vegan options. Every main has a vegan option (most are vegan by default) and all the cakes are suitable for vegans and are refined-sugar-free too.
We opted for a coconut broth with parsnip ribbons, broccoli, black peas, coriander and sesame as it was a gloomy afternoon and we wanted something extra warming.
This was delicious. Fragrant and with a hint of sweetness to it, this Comfort Bowl (no.2 on the menu) filled us up till dinnertime. In hindsight, we should have taken a Wholly Cake with us to-go for later because we've been dreaming about them for a few days now.
Salad Pride is at 2 Neal's Yard, Covent Garden in central London.
Mains are around £6, cakes around £4 and smoothies £5. We've included the full menu below (correct at 7/4/16).
One of our favourite things about this visit was the warmth of the staff - it's one of those places that immediately welcomes you. We met David and two vegan team members, Carl and Carolina, and we were also lucky enough to get a sample of their homemade Nutella which we're praying will feature on the menu soon.
Next we'll have to head back for breakfast. And then salad. And then a Wholly Cake and a smoothie to take away. When it's whole foods & plant-based it's rude to say no!
Let us know if you head over to Salad Pride and remember to hashtag #vegansofldn in your photos so we can share.
