This week, The Phene (pronounced Fee-Nee - we got it so wrong) have a completely vegan menu. Here's a quick share of what I ate with Jenny from @thenuttynoodle last night, so that you can run there tonight or tomorrow and make the most of their delicious food!
We had the baba ganoush & grilled flatbread, the stuffed vine leaves with harissa hummus and pickled chilli peppers with artichoke.
As if nibbles weren't starters, we got post-starter starters. And it was a great idea.
Jenny had the beetroot tartare with little blobs of macadamia ricotta, balsamic jelly, pickled walnut and mizuna (which Google tells me is a Japanese mustard green).
I had the butternut squash terrine with fresh shaved chestnut and it aaabsolutely hit the spot! Perfect crispy-soft texture and indulgent without being overly oily.
Luckily, the mains weren't huge, so we got through them. We had the Portobello mushroom, spinach & chestnut Wellington with roast veg (the pastry was great) and the sweet potato cannelloni that was stuffed with dates and pistachio with romanesco and a creamy celeriac purée on the side.
We reached deep into that magical 'dessert stomach' space for afters; Jenny went for the blueberry & pecan cheesecake and I had the griled peach with sorbet, redcurrant jelly and almond nougatine.
If you know any omni restaurants who have recently decided to try out a vegan menu, let me know and we'll check them out.
